Senior Environmental Engineer

Houston, TX

 PURPOSE

This position ensures environmental compliance for the entire company.

 POSITIONS DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to understand environmental regulations related to air, water, and solid waste permits and know how to communicate with all levels of the applicable government agencies and understand how they are interrelated. The position also requires the ability to compile and prepare all routine environmental reports as required by air, water, and solid waste permits, and to revise existing permits and prepare new permits as necessary to ensure compliance. This position must be able to communicate with all levels of the organization and to effectively train employees to ensure that all permit requirements are properly understood.

 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Environmental, Safety, and Health Manager. It has a seat on the company’s Environmental, Safety, and Health Team for environmental matters. This position interfaces with government agencies, senior managers, plant managers, corporate staff, field personnel, vendors, environmental consultants, and contract engineering and construction firms. The position has no direct reports.

This position requires a bachelor degree in chemical or environmental engineering, chemistry or equivalent, and at least three years of working experience in the processes noted above. Travel required (not excessive).

EHS Trainer

Description :

·         This position ensures that all environmental, safety and health training is effectively delivered for the entire company and coordinates the plant skill based training programs.

·         This position requires the ability to prepare and deliver all applicable environmental and safety training for all company facilities and integrate that training with other existing training programs.

·         The position assesses skill based training programs for effectiveness and makes recommendations on improvements.

·         Must have the ability to train others to deliver environmental and safety training.

·         This position must keep up with all environmental and safety training regulatory requirements by OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies and ensure that the company meets them.

Job Duties:
Job Duties As our Advanced Safety Specialist, your mission will be the day-to-day support and engagement with plant personnel in executing programs that meet corporate and regulatory compliance, and that drive the development of a zero injury culture. A key member of the site Safety Department, you will utilize your ASP or CSP certifications in working with the Plant Safety Leader, running Safety Leadership and supporting Line Safety Teams, running monthly compliance training sessions, seeking out and correcting plant deficiencies, and performing hazard analysis. Utilizing your 3 -5 years of hands-on safety experience in a continuous flow processing manufacturing environment, preferably in areas such as confined space entry or fall protection, you will implement safety initiatives and set priorities designed to keep our manufacturing teams on track for the VPP or STARR compliance goals that you will manage. Using your patented consultative, inclusive approach to project management, you will manage a team of on-shift safety coordinators, as well as interact with production personnel, located locally and at two other facilities, who will look to you for leadership in reaching the plants' initiative designed to deliver zero recordable injuries and a 50 % reduction on first aids. Your experience interacting with regulatory agencies will enable you to manage systems required for on-time corporate and regulatory reporting of internal incidents as well as the completion of any action plans resulting from audits.

 Position Summary: Direct the staff and activities of the Risk Management Department; ensure that risks of unexpected loss are identified, evaluated, and managed; purchase and administer the company’s insurance programs; and create strategies to manage loss prevention and administer the claims management process. Evaluate exposures to loss and determine the best means to manage them; supervise claims operations. Oversee workers’ compensation claim activities; supervise the development of safety training methods and materials; and prepare summary loss tracking reports.  

Responsibilities:

  1. Constantly identify and analyze risks that may adversely affect the Company.
  2. Monitor values/exposures; review and analyze loss data for trends, develop key performance indicators and reporting capabilities and make recommendations for changes or improvement.
  3. Administer captive insurance company including review of entity accounting, pooling and reinsurance arrangements, and actuarial analysis.
  4. Serve as company representative for reinsurance pool.
  5. Negotiate and manage all agreements (reinsurance, financing, banking, trust agreements, etc.).
  6. Keep management informed of all trends and issues.

Position:  Environmental Specialist

Location:  Near Waterloo, Iowa

 
Position Summary:  
The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for the overall environmental direction in their facility.  This includes directing activities required to ensure compliance with applicable regulations covering air emissions, waste generation and disposal, stormwater pollution prevention, chemical reporting and DOT Hazmat shipments.

Accountabilities:  
Provide technical support and guidance to facility management on environmental issues.
Implement inspections, recordkeeping, training and reporting to comply with all conditions in the facility’s Iowa DNR issued air permit.
Identity all waste streams or by-products generated by normal or abnormal facility operations.  Arrange for proper disposal or recycling as required by applicable regulations to minimize long term liability to the Company.
Conduct all training, inspections, recordkeeping and reporting required for managing all wastes generated.
Review activities conducted at the facility which could have an impact on stormwater run-off.  Implement appropriate programs, training, inspections, sampling and reporting to comply and minimize liability or potential for off site contamination.
Collect data and prepare reports as needed under the EPCRA requirements for hazardous materials stored or released in the course of conducting business activities at the site.
Implement training, recordkeeping and documentation as required to comply with DOT requirements for the preparation and shipment of hazardous materials.
Prepare the Facility Environmental Plan each year, review with the local management team and direct its implementation.
Support and implement MBCI and Fortune Brands environmental programs as needed.
Identify and drive projects which reduce the environmental impacts of the facility’s operations.  This includes projects which reduce the volume or toxicity of wastes, the cost of their disposal and/or the long/short term liability associated with off site handling of those wastes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum 1-3 years of environmental experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment and knowledge of Title V.

Job Duties:
Will lead the Environmental, Health & Safety programs for one facility with an emphasis on environmental. Will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state and local agency requirements and implementing EHS Management Systems aligning to the EHS strategic plan. Specific responsibilities include: ensuring compliance with existing air (Title V), water & waste permits; lead the site safety committee; conduct inspections, training & enforcement of OSHA requirements; lead incident investigations and conduct root cause analysis; manage waste water treatment operations and hazardous waste handlers; coordinate & implement continuous improvement initiatives; evaluate new compliance and regulatory objectives applicable to the facility; initiate proactive EHS projects (Energy Savings, Waste reductions, recycling, injury reduction); develop resources/training programs to successfully complete the compliance objectives; implement management systems in alignment with VPP and ISO 14001; participate in corporate EHS teams and compliance assessments.
